U.S. RIFLE MUSKET. Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl 40" rnd with oct shank. Fixed front sight with three leaf musket sight. Left flat is marked "V/P" over eagle's head. Top bbl flat and rear of flat have "1864" date. Forward portion of lock is stamped "U.S./L.G.-&Y./WINDSOR-Vt". Bbl bolster is marked with American eagle. Three band fastened walnut stock with iron fittings and proper ramrod. Total of 50,000 were mfg 1862-1864. CONDITION: cleaned metal shows scattered spots of light pitting. Heavily sanded stock shows numerous remaining marks and dents. Sound lock. Bore is generally bright with sound rifling. (01-28570/DS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
